Because the Berlin Wall stood for 28 years.
And yet we are building walls again—only now they are invisible, made of passwords, subscriptions, algorithms and paywalls. If we continue at this pace, these digital walls we've built will stand for 2,800 years.
And perhaps they will grow so tall that, one day, even gravity will have to remind the highest bricks where home is.
Then they will fall.
Not upon one kingdom or another, but upon all of us.
Until there is nothing left to own, nothing left to share, and nowhere left to retreat from the endless argument.
A world of zero ownership.
Zero commons.
Zero Peace.
Just a ceaseless, pyrrhic war in the town square—where the square is now called Twitter (X? NAH!, we will always call it TWITTER).
So these apps are free.
Not because they have no value.
But because I believe knowledge, imagination and useful technology should not become another wall between human beings.
Some things should remain open.
Some doors should remain unlocked.
And sometimes, the most radical thing you can give the world…
…is something that asks nothing in return.
